Technische Universität München is strongly committed to research on technologies providing sustainable solutions. To provide the educational basis required for research in the energy and water sector, the Institute of Thermodynamics at TUM offers lectures including Thermodynamics, Heat- and Mass-Transfer, Multi-Phase-Flow as well as Solar Engineering and Desalination. Among our research projects, we are active in desalination, both thermal and membrane based, also being supported with renewable energy. Founded as non-profit organization in 2003, DME Deutsche Meerwasserentsalzung e. V. represents the central platform for industry, science and politics on the subject of seawater desalination in Germany.

The aim of the DME e. V. is to specially support the German industry and further its international standing. By means of its various committees the technical knowhow can be deepend and bundled. Via its international advisory committee, DME e. V. has a worldwide competence network in the desalination industry.

Since the very beginning, DME e. V. supports the TUM DeSal Challenge

The non-profit promotion of natural sciences including those technical sciences, which serve the pumps, compressors and fittings manufacturing, directly or indirectly of school youth and training of young researchers in natural sciences, technical and economic scientific field.

In the desalination market, Omya represents Professional Water Technologies (PWT) from the USA in Europe, the Middle East and selected countries in Africa. PWT has developed and produces a unique line of specialty chemicals for reverse osmosis membranes, such as unique antiscalants based on dendrimer technology and highly efficient membrane cleaning chemicals. These specialty chemicals are successfully applied in medium to large-scale desalination systems for drinking water production, industrial applications and in food processing.
